Christmas Tree for Mrs. Guehring's Kindergarten Class

I am so happy to take part in a very special project this year. A Kindergarten teacher who lives in my community posted a message about her class. She wrote, "Something heartbreaking happened in my class today," and proceeded to explain that she finished a week-long book about making soup with her class and then brought a crock pot so that she and her class could make soup together in school. One little boy ate his cup of soup and then proceeded to eat leftover soup around his table. She then gave him a whole bowl and he ate it without looking up. So she packed the rest of the soup up for him to bring home. It was an awakening for her as she knew her kids were a Title I, impoverished school, but didn't realize the depths of their hunger until she made soup. She asked her neighbors to chip in and help her buy some essentials for her students. Instead, our entire neighborhood has made it our mission to fill these kids bellies and homes with clothes, toys and food for the holidays.

This is a Title I elementary school in Alief ISD, Houston, TX. Out of 21 kids, 18 speak a language other than English in the home. There are 10 boys and 11 girls, ages 5 and 6. Remember, they have already been hit hard after Hurricane Harvey!

My family is helping by putting together a Christmas bag for each child. They need shirts, pants, socks, shoes, non-perishable food items, a book and a toy. We also need donated Christmas gift bags.
